April 1 of this year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov, the great Russian composer, pianist, conductor, a symbol of Russian music throughout the world. He was born in 1873 in the Novgorod province, grew up in a musical family. From a young age he began to study music, in 1882 he entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Later he became a student at the Moscow Conservatory, where he was noticed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. In 1917, Sergei Rachmaninov and his family went to Sweden for two months with a concert program. However, after not risking returning to revolutionary Russia, the Rachmaninov family moved to the United States.
