Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, taking part in the G7 leaders' summit in Hiroshima, announced new sanctions against Russia. The Prime Minister's Office confirmed that the sanctions target 17 individuals and 18 entities associated with Russian companies that provide military technology and know-how. The House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament has approved a gun control bill. The fires burned about 478,000 hectares in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, according to NASA's Earth Observatory. WestJet and the pilots' union said they had reached an agreement Friday minutes before the strike began, averting it. The Ontario government has announced the dissolution of the Region of Peel.
